20 verses and short passages for hurting hearts, anxiety, fear, and weary days

1. Psalm 34:18

Encouragement: God is close to you when your heart is broken. You are not alone in your pain.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

2. Matthew 11:28–30

Encouragement: Jesus invites the tired, burdened, and overwhelmed to come to Him for rest.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart:and ye shall find rest unto your souls.For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

3. Isaiah 41:10

Encouragement: God tells you not to fear because He is with you, holding you up and helping you.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:
I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

4. Philippians 4:6–7

Encouragement: You can bring your worries to God in prayer, and His peace can guard your heart and mind.

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

5. 1 Peter 5:7

Encouragement: God cares about what is weighing on you. You can hand your burdens to Him.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

6. Psalm 46:1

Encouragement: God is your safe place and your strength, especially when trouble feels close.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

7. John 14:27

Encouragement: Jesus gives a deeper peace than anything this world can offer.

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

8. Psalm 23:1–4

Encouragement: The Lord shepherds, restores, and walks with you even through the darkest valleys.

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

9. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

Encouragement: God is the God of comfort, and He comforts us so we can comfort others too.

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

10. Romans 8:28

Encouragement: Even when life feels confusing, God is still able to work in and through all things.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

11. Deuteronomy 31:8

Encouragement: God goes before you. You do not have to face this day by yourself.

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

12. Psalm 55:22

Encouragement: You can give your burden to the Lord, and He will help carry you through.

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

13. Lamentations 3:22–24

Encouragement: God’s mercy has not run out. His faithfulness meets you again every morning.

“It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”

14. Joshua 1:9

Encouragement: Courage does not mean you are never afraid. It means you remember God is with you wherever you go.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

15. Psalm 121:1–2

Encouragement: Your help comes from the Lord, the One who made heaven and earth.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

16. Isaiah 43:2

Encouragement: God does not promise you will never face deep waters, but He does promise to be with you in them.

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

17. Romans 15:13

Encouragement: God can fill your heart with hope, joy, and peace through the Holy Spirit.

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

18. Psalm 9:9–10

Encouragement: When you feel oppressed, troubled, or unsafe, the Lord is a refuge you can run to.

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

19. Proverbs 3:5–6

Encouragement: You do not have to understand everything to trust God with the next step.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

20. Revelation 21:4

Encouragement: Your pain is not the end of the story. One day God will wipe away every tear.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
